Mid 19th C faience teapot made by Samson in style of Moustiers.
Truly fabled grotesque design of a bearded man riding a dolphin with a monkey holding tight to his back!
Decorations are mimicking the unique style and colours typical for Moustiers manufactories. So does the mark on the bottom - it is an imitation of Moustiers' sign made by Samson circa mid 19th C.
Both sides contain idilic scenes of fable figures with floral motifs, insects and a flying dragon.
Condition: chipped glaze on the rim top ornament of the lid; no further damage at all, there is no cracks or any repaired spots; the blue stains on monkey's back are underglaze colouring - most certainly a defect made prior to the firing process.
